Harpd Rank Rules

Harpd Rank orders products with two layers that never mix: Rank Points, which are paid and promotional, and the Discovery Score, which is free, earned and impossible to buy. It is a discovery and ranking system — not an independent editorial quality score.

Free Rank entry

Every approved product is eligible for Overall Rank, including a Free listing with 0 Credits and 0 Rank Points. A Credit balance, Credit purchase or prior Rank spend is never required for free eligibility. Existing moderation still applies.

Points and Credits

1 completed Harpd Credit spent on Rank = 1 permanent Rank Point. Rank Points are a public promotional score, not wallet Credits. They cannot be withdrawn, transferred, redeemed or converted back into Credits.

Three rankings

  • Overall includes every approved product and scores lifetime completed RP.
  • Monthly includes products approved during the named UTC calendar month or earning at least 1 RP in that month. Score is RP earned in that month.
  • Weekly includes products approved during the named UTC Monday–Sunday period or earning at least 1 RP in that week. Score is RP earned in that week.

A newly approved product can appear in its launch month and week with 0 RP. An older 0-RP product does not remain eligible for every new period. One completed Rank spend contributes to Overall, the current month and the current week simultaneously.

Ordering and ties

Harpd Rank has two layers, and they never mix.

Layer 1 — Rank Points (RP). Paid and promotional. Higher RP ranks first. Products holding at least 1 RP always appear above products holding 0 RP.

Layer 2 — Discovery Score (HDS). Free, earned, and impossible to buy. It orders the products that hold no Rank Points, so a board with no paid activity still has an explainable order instead of an arbitrary one.

Discovery Score

HDS is a 0–100 number built only from things Harpd can actually measure. It is a discovery signal, not a quality verdict: it does not say a product works, is safe, is good value, or is liked by anyone. It says how much evidence of real interest sits behind a listing.

  • Real user interest — 40 points. Outbound clicks Harpd recorded, with 7-day unique clicks weighted above lifetime clicks. Deduplicated, so repeated clicks from one visitor count once.
  • Ownership — 20 points. Whether the maker has claimed the listing. A claimed listing is one someone maintains, updates and can share. Claimed scores highest; a verified listing scores above a pending claim, because Harpd checked the former and the latter is only an assertion.
  • Listing completeness — 20 points. Logo, a real description, a tagline and tags. A complete listing is a page that can actually inform the reader it ranks for.
  • Verified external proof — 12 points. A GitHub star count Harpd fetched and dated. Nothing estimated, nothing submitted by the maker without verification.
  • Recency — 8 points. Full weight for the first 30 days after approval, decaying to zero at 180 days, so newly listed products get a window instead of a permanent tail.

HDS cannot be bought. No amount of Credits, spend or sponsorship moves it, and no Harpd operator can set it. Credits move a product through Rank Points only. Every HDS term is a measured user action, an ownership fact, a fact about the listing itself, a verified third-party figure, or elapsed time — nothing else.

Within equal Rank Points the order is: earliest time that score was reached, then approval time, then stable product ID. Within equal Discovery Score the order is: approval time, then stable product ID. For a 0-RP product, approval time is its score-reached time. Every tie-break is deterministic, so the same board renders identically on every build.

A listing with no signals yet shows Not yet ranked and a Discovery Score near zero. That is not a penalty — it is the honest reading of a listing nobody has clicked, claimed or completed.

Top 100 and product profiles

Public leaderboard and archive pages show positions 1–100. Product profiles remain public outside that range and show Rank Points plus Outside Top 100. Authenticated owners can see their exact position, the current #100 RP threshold and the additional RP required to enter the Top 100.

History

Closed Monthly and Weekly results are stored as immutable snapshots. Snapshots retain every eligible product's placement, including finishes outside the public Top 100, so individual product history remains retrievable.

Verification before promotion

A listing must be verified before its owner can spend Credits to build Rank Points. Verification is not required for free discovery or ranking after moderation approval. Verification confirms control of a product; it is not an endorsement.

Promotional placement

Credit-funded Rank Points are labelled Promoted. They are promotional placement, not an editorial recommendation, review, rating or investment. Positions can change whenever another product later outranks a listing. Harpd does not guarantee clicks, traffic, leads, sales, impressions or conversions.

Submission and moderation

Submission is free. Harpd may reject, hide or remove unlawful, deceptive, unsafe, duplicate or off-category listings.

Platform-operated products

Products genuinely operated by Harpd may appear as free listings. They are excluded from Rank competition funded by operator-issued Credits, so the platform cannot silently boost its own listings.

Credit sources and completed spend

Credits may be purchased or, where disclosed, issued promotionally. A completed spend is not returned merely because another product later outranks a listing. Refunds, disputes and administrative reversals follow the Credits Terms and Terms of Service; any corresponding adjustment remains auditable.

Harpd Rank rules FAQ

What is Harpd Rank?
Harpd Rank is a public product discovery and promotional ranking system. Approved products are placed on Overall, Monthly and Weekly leaderboards scored in Rank Points, so users can discover products and makers can compete for visibility.
What is RP?
RP stands for Rank Point. One completed Harpd Credit spent on Rank creates one permanent Rank Point. RP is a public promotional score — it cannot be withdrawn, transferred, redeemed or converted back into Credits.
How does a product qualify for free Rank entry?
Every approved product is eligible for Overall Rank with a free listing at 0 Credits and 0 Rank Points. A Credit balance, Credit purchase or prior Rank spend is never required for free eligibility.
How many Rank Points does one Credit give?
One completed Harpd Credit spent on Rank creates one permanent Rank Point. Rank Points are a public promotional score and cannot be withdrawn, transferred, redeemed or converted back into Credits.
What is the difference between Overall, Monthly and Weekly?
Overall scores lifetime completed Rank Points. Monthly scores RP earned in the named UTC calendar month. Weekly scores RP earned in the named UTC Monday–Sunday period. One completed Rank spend contributes to all three simultaneously.
Do Rank Points expire?
No. Rank Points are permanent. Overall Rank accumulates lifetime completed RP, and closed Monthly and Weekly results are stored as immutable snapshots you can still retrieve.
How are ties broken?
Higher RP ranks first, and any product holding RP always ranks above any product holding none. Equal RP is ordered by the earliest time that score was reached, then approval time, then stable product ID. The 0-RP group is ordered by Discovery Score, then approval time, then stable product ID. Every tie-break is deterministic, so the same board renders identically on every build.
What is the Discovery Score?
The Discovery Score (HDS) is a free 0–100 ordering signal that decides the order of products holding no Rank Points. It is built from five measured inputs: real outbound clicks (40 points), whether the maker has claimed the listing (20), listing completeness such as logo, description and tags (20), a GitHub star count Harpd verified (12), and recency (8). It is a discovery signal, not a quality verdict — it does not say a product works, is safe or is good value.
Can I buy a better Discovery Score?
No. Credits, spend and sponsorship cannot move the Discovery Score at all, and no Harpd operator can set it. Credits move a product through Rank Points only. Every Discovery Score input is a measured user action, an ownership fact, a fact about the listing itself, a verified third-party figure, or elapsed time. That separation is what keeps the paid Rank and the free ordering honest.
Why does my listing show "Not yet ranked" instead of 0 RP?
Because 0 RP is not a score — it is the absence of one, and printing it as a number invites comparison with products that actually earned Rank Points. Listings with no RP yet show Not yet ranked plus a Discovery Score, so you can see the ordering rule at work rather than an empty column.
Does Rank equal product quality?
No. Rank is a discovery and promotional ranking signal, not an independent editorial quality score. It reflects ranking, discovery and promotional inputs such as Credits spent on Rank, and should not be read as a review, rating or endorsement.
How are promotional signals handled?
Credit-funded Rank Points are labelled Promoted and disclosed on every board. They are promotional placement, not an editorial recommendation, review, rating or investment. Harpd does not guarantee clicks, traffic, leads or sales.
Is paid Rank an endorsement?
No. Credit-funded Rank Points are labelled Promoted. They are promotional placement, not an editorial recommendation, review, rating or investment. Harpd does not guarantee clicks, traffic, leads or sales.
