Harpd Answers · Explained

What is a Harpd claim id?

A claim id is the stable identifier for one factual claim Harpd publishes. It appears in the claim registry, in dataset records and in deep links, so a claim can be referenced unambiguously years later.

Quick answer

What is a Harpd claim id?

A Harpd claim id is a stable identifier for a single factual claim. It is short, human-readable where possible, and never reused — so a citation, a correction request or a dataset row can point at exactly one assertion.

How it works

The mechanics, plainly

Claims are registered once with an id and the full evidence chain: entity, value, source URL, dataset URL, evidence URL, methodology URL, data date, confidence and status. The id is usable as a deep link into /citations/, appears in /data/claims.json, and is what a correction report should quote.

Why it matters

Data discussions go wrong when people argue about different numbers while believing they are discussing the same one. A stable claim id makes "this specific figure, from this dataset, on this date" expressible in a single token.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a claim id?

Search /citations/ for the claim, or read /data/claims.json. Each entry carries its claimId.

What do I send when reporting an error?

The claim id and the figure you believe is wrong, plus the source you are comparing against. The id lets the report be resolved against the exact assertion.

Can a claim id be reused after a claim is withdrawn?

No. Ids are not recycled, so an old reference can never silently resolve to a different claim.
